Ok were did the statue of King Neptune that was at Canal Park get off to. When did they take it down, who took it down, where is it?

Can any Duluth sluths come up with an answer for this one.

King Neptune statue stood in Canal Park from October 1959 until June of 1963.

From the time of the statue stood, it cost about 300.00 per year for upkeep and maintance, as it appears the statue was built using paper mache and other substances related to weather protection, some of which were of flammable material.

On June 4th, 1963 evidently, using a blow torch, a public works crew was attempting to cut some hold downs or anchor bolts, to be able to work on the statue, at 5:45 a.m., King Neptune Statue went up in flames, destroyed by fire.

Re-read from the articles listed in the Duluth News Tribune and the Herold paper, on or around October 1st, and dedication October 29th, 1959, and June 4th, 1963 on or there abouts when the fire occured.

Yeah I lived in Duluth my whole life and never saw that, and that explains it.

So someone didn't visit a city in at least 47 years and wonders, of all things, where a statue went as opposed to commenting on all the other changes the city went through in that time frame?

Considering I'm 21, not really. My mom has lived here for over 30 years though, and she's seen a lot of changes. Mostly positive. When she moved here 30 years ago, she said it was the saddest most depressing little town. She now sees that Duluth has made a lot of changes. Many years ago, downtown was abandoned for the mall area. Now, things are looking up and downtown is nicer, and the mall area is nicer. Lots of newer businesses and whatnot. It definitely wouldn't be the Duluth you remember from all those years ago. Lots of newer development... especially in Canal Park. Canal Park looks NICE and it's my favorite spot in Duluth along with Park Point. I will miss that aspect of Duluth when I move away.

Er..... Yeah I couldn't really imagine much of a career at the Electric Fetus. Though I do enjoy stopping in there every once in a while.
