Knke is correct; the workers there were striking in the late summer after their boss told them he was going to strip a lot of benefits. I think Pickwicks was also caught stealing union dues, and may have hired guards(?). As for the ownership change I don't care too much. I've never eaten there and probably never will, it belongs with all the other pricey restaurants downtown and in canal park. My only concern is for any layoffs.

I love eating at many of the "pricey" restaurants downtown and in Canal Park, but have just never much cared for Pick Wicks. I just wasn't impressed with the food the few times I've eaten there, and don't much care for the building or the atmosphere. Meh.

Found the food to be a cut above and the price was never high.
Yes the inside is so old and so old world, it would be much better if it looked like McDonalds or something.

Welcome to Pickwick Restaurant - History
Whoops, sorry about the name. My bad. I certainly wouldn't like a McDonalds or anything to replace the restaurant. I understand the appeal of the Pickwick, but I've been there so many times since I was young and have just been excited lately with all of the new dining options popping up.

Have anything to back that ("was also caught stealing union dues, and may have hired guards") up.
I've never heard of paying your employer union dues. I'd guess that goes to the union.

Granted, I have no personal knowledge of the situation and can't comment on the veracity of the claim, but union dues are usually deducted automatically from your paycheck. Therefore, if Pickwick's manager/owner did their own payroll rather than contract it out, it would be possible for him to skim/steal some of the money that was supposed to go to the union.

Really? Isn't their cheapest meal $15 (excluding taxes and tips)? I don't know Pickwicks prices couldn't be described as high.

could ............. does not mean anyone did.

If they did I hope they get busted, in the mean time I'm not making accusations.

One of the best Rubens in the country along with onion rings what ever the price was ... it was worth it to me. Now this is how it becomes real easy. If anyone does not like the food or thinks the price is to high, find another place to eat

Then you didn't read my second link which claimed that the NLRB found that Pickwicks stole 3 months union dues. roneb merely answered how it would be possible since you were wondering about that.

The union says so means nothing .... what a COURT says is what one must go by. Has the Pickwick been charged with theft in any court of law? Have the owners of the Pickwick been convicted of theft of union dues?
I'm not standing up for the Pickwick, I just like FACTS not hear say or unsubstantiated accusations. Still I'll eat at the Pickwick when I'm in Duluth and leave my server a good tip.
