This article plainly states why we will not see recovery any time soon.

I have been saying that for a long time... just glad someone else agrees with me... I have little hope for a quick recovery when politicians "use" a crisis to further their own ideology and political party... good luck to everyone out there cause you are going to need it...

Are you saying that the Bush tax cuts were only for the rich? Tell that to the millions of people who no longer paid federal taxes after 2003.

Among those millions you cite, how many once had good paying jobs in manufacturing before the Reagan tax cuts for the rich started the decline of the middle class?

Another logic fail. Reagan's tax cuts helped anyone that paid taxes.

As for offshoring of jobs, you can blame those same millions of people for their own decline because they wanted cheap goods from China. How many people off the street are happy that they can buy $400 laptops and TVs?

Also, letting people retire at 48 after 30 years on the job probably didn't help things either.

Of course, it's always easier to blame
Reagan's tax cuts didn't help anyone at the bottom or in the middle. I lost a bunch of tax write offs and ended up paying far more taxes than before.
Did you forget the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act(TEFRA) of 1982? Still the largest peace time tax increase in American history.
Then came this Social Security Reform Act of 1983. A payroll tax increase, who do you think this effected most? For many middle- and low-income families, this tax increase more than undid any gains from Mr. Reagan's income tax cuts.

" Of course, it's always easier to blame" It's always easy to make statements like this when you don't know what you're talking about.

Um, those are the people that should be paying in. Social Security is a payroll program, not a welfare program, although people like Obama would love to turn it into one.

Sorry, but if you are going to collect social security than you should pay in. The "rich" already pay the vast majority of federal income taxes in this country as it is. The bottom half pay next to nothing.

Of course the best solution IMO is to scrap SS altogether and let people keep their money, since we know that SS is going to be gone in 50 years or less.

I agree SS should be paid by everyone. That being said the SS cap should be removed altogether and since the lower wage earner is paying on all their earnings then it is only fair that the rich also pay on ALL THEIR EARNINGS. I bet it wouldn't be gone in 50 years if the cap were lifted.

Care to show that with tax facts?

AS far as SS taxes, would you have been for cutting benefits instead?
