Jazzlover was predicting $500/barrel oil and fuel shortages by now, so his evaluations of resources must be taken with a wee grain of salt.
Jazzes timing might be off a bit, but $500/barrell seems quite plausible to me. I will venture only a vague guess on the timing...I'm currently in my early 60s and I expect oil to hit that price level in my lifetime. Traditionally, this is the time of the year when pump prices usually drop. On my way into work this morning, driving by the corner station, I noticed that gas was 16 cents higher this morning than it was yesterday afternoon.

Yup that is exactly what the religious nuts say when they emerge from the shelter to find everyone still here playing xbox, watching football, and browsing the latest iphone apps.

Our timing was off but wait till next time! We're all doomed!

Well there you go. You noticing that 16 cents increase of a historical volatile priced commodity is all I need to agree with jazzlover's hilarious doom predictions.

Thanks for the recon.

Slacker.....Laugh now, while gas at the pump is ONLY $3.25 and a barrell of oil is ONLY $91.

Well, guess what? Everything they eat or use in their household is either made, transported, preserved, or disposed of using petroluem or petroleum byproducts. And the company they work for? I'll bet it uses plenty of oil, too, for whatever product or service it produces.

Hell, I live a few blocks from where I work in a pretty energy-efficient house. Do I not worry about oil prices and supplies? I worry plenty about it, because I'm smart enough to see how oil permeates every economic activity in this country. And we are doing nothing to wean us off of a resource that is getting more scarce and more expensive with each passing year.

Not as hard as I laugh when I see fools predicting that by 2010 there will be no illegal immigration into the U.S. because of no jobs.

I know, at this rate it'll be $500/barrel by 2009.

There are plenty of resources left in our country. Blame the treehuggers on that one. A large part of why gas prices are raising...good ol inflation. And you can blame the feds on that one!

.
Boehner and company have promised that there will be plenty of jobs in 2011, so when illegals get here to take them, we'll know who to blame.

Economic vitality has nothing to do with population growth, if it did countries like Mexico and the Philippines would be wealthy.
Prosperity is a result of natural resources, exports, and culture.
