They deserved to die like any other company that fails business. At least their stock is performing within their standards.
I would agree with you except for the fact that foreign automakers receive favorable treatment from their governments. So do we want to stick to our free market principles (as I would prefer if there were no foreign automakers) or do we want to keep a domestic auto industry (and adopt some of the socialistic practices of foreign countries)?
...or do we want to impose a tariff on foreign imports to make up for disparity in the costs of doing business domestically vs. foreign?
I hope so, but after surviving for 100 years (including the Great Depression and other economic downturns), who would have ever thought they would have to declare bankruptcy after such a brief downturn a couple years ago? Modern management philosophy is very near-sighted.

I am serious. There were parts that should have been aluminum that were brushed steel so they were rusting right in plain sight. You would have needed to use wrenches to get at them for polishing.
I don't know what you mean by "C6 > C5". If you are saying the C6 is a better performance vehicle, I agree. But, I still like the styling of the C5 better.
I would LOVE to get my hands on a Chevy Volt and see how it drives. I'll be watching to hear what owners think after 6mo and 1yr. I've never been a GM fan (Ford makes a better product overall) but I'm blown away at what they've engineered with the Volt. It may well be a game changer if they can get the production cost down so that we buyers don't have to pay a premium for the tech.

What concerns me the most is that GM is making a huge profit and is probably not setting any of it aside for the next slump. So that means they will go crying to the government for a loan and possibly dump their shareholders again. It was just 2 years ago we went through this mess and I doubt they've learned their lesson.
No doubt. They immediately gave out a load of bonuses to the union workers that hold them hostage. Should have gone to the bondholders that they stiffed.
one thing to remember is car sales reported are from manufacturer to dealer, not to consumer. If you dig deep into the numbers you will find the inventory at dealerships increased dramatically in Feb. Almost 70% of the gain was increases in inventory. You have to wait a couple of months to see if you get a follow thru in consumer sales. Channel stuffing is common in this business and gets you a big month but you need follow thru. I would guess it's buildup for spring sales but we'll have to see if the sales materialize
Whe your at the botto slaes have no where to go but up. But then its where thsoe sales are lokig at the futre and your debt to income tha really matters most. GM s not in a good position when its slaes still rely on high profitable trucks and SUVs plus their debt.They wouldn;t even be i the game if not for the bailout or havig to exist in the real business world.
