The book mentioned is a good read for those deeply ,and honestly, interested in any society's future. IMO we stand at the cross road for America's future now. Will we decide to do something about our future or will we settle for business as usual and die off? One thing is certain standing still isn't a good plan........

Earlier this summer I mentioned that I was reading Jared Diamond's Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed, and I promised to sum up the insights that I had gleaned from it. The book is well-worth reading -- if not quite on a par with his earlier Guns, Germs, and Steel -- and you'll learn an enormous amount about a diverse set of past societies and the range of scientific knowledge (geology, botany, forensic archaeology, etc.) that is enabling us to understand why they prospered and/or declined.

I think it may be too late to prevent whats coming. The crash of 2008 gave us one last, zero-hour chance to possibly save America but we as a nation completely blew it. We didn't learn our lesson. There will be one final collapse, likely coming in the second half of 2011, that will be the end of this country as we know it.

The end of this country as we know it has already happened.

But, your "second half of 2011" collapse is certainly a possibility.

If I'm not mistaken some cities in America look that way now. I know your saying the whole country. But, a few places are already that bad.

Maybe it will be more like "The Book of Eli"? The nukes will detonate from no mantenance and ash will fall from the sky.

Its coming

And rightly so.

No positive thinking or some other gobbly **** can thwart the policies that have destroyed America for the benefit of the few.

Its not a matter of if but when.

In this "Global Market" the fed is also part of that "free market" and so shall they fail in time. When you use 5 dollar a day people to build your widgets, with people across the pond in America dependent on more expensive housing, medical, transportation, education, it is not sustainable.

Unlike the great depression though, we are not tied to gold, but paper dollars, so it will take longer until everyone dumps this worthless fiat paper back on us. There was no unrecoverable crash on Wall Street like there should have been this time as in the Great Depression, since they can just print dollars to make up for it. Like the 2008 crash though, there are many chumps insisting on the worthiness of our dollar though, only because it is the reserve currency, and they prop it up to their own benefit and have investments in it.

Unlike some, I look forward to the day when the whole system crashes because only then will people realize what a sham it is. As it is now, the American Economy by design is looked at as socialistic so that the parasites can draw more from the lower classes as the ship is sinking. When it sinks completely, what will they say then? It is not socialistic at all however, and moreso parasitic with those in bed with our government.

Let's say I wanted to build a community garden with many living on it for example. If it got large enough, I can bet you that Monsanto or some other company would cry foul to the government and cite some health code violation in order to shut it down. That's how these people work and there are many examples where corporation shut down competition via regulations to snuff them out, so that they can have a monopoly on it.

These people are nothing short of evil

The only direction forward is to fight the propaganda being spewed by fascists corporatist, Government stooges, and Wall Street and make people realize what is in their best interests, and not some free market voodoo, which is controlled and directed by Washington and Corporate policies. They don't care about you and will fight every inch to maintain control over you.

You guys keep patting yourselves on the back. I'll keep doing what I love and you can keep wallowing in despair for the pending collapse.

Seriously. You guys like doomsday cults. When was the last collapse supposed to happen? During each administration there are doomsday / collapse of the US / woe is us type of folks and keep getting things wrong. Even during the 60s, at the "height of our power" and "the good ol' days" people were saying the Communists were going to take over. And look how that turned out. May as well say Nibiru or alien invasions or Xibalba will cause the end of the world while you are at it, it's just as credible (which is to say, not at all).

But hey, why not say stuff like that? It's sensationalist and not driven by data but emotion! And emotion is more easily twisted than numbers.

Always remember that for everyone spouting knowledge of something, they have agendas of their own ... even those claiming to have "everyone's best interests" in mind really have THEIR OWN ideals in mind for everyone. I don't buy anyone claiming that they have my best interests at heart. No way, no how, and least of all, you guys.

Collpase now days is pretty individual now days. It is always possible nationally like the great depression but less likely since 2008.Like the 70's it has been a collpae for mnay that will effect them for years and some even longer. But we really are a long ways from what mnay eve western nations are facing because we have not committed near the GDP to support of the same numbers.
