You can't deny the fact that the boomers were born kind of lucky.

Walk of fthe street and get 14/hr factory jobs in the 70's. 30k/year in the 70's lol. Decent money I'd say. Add the pensions and benefits and any shclub off the street who wanted to work was making around $25/hr all inclusive compensation.

Nowadays, the standard is 15/hr for college grads with no pension and no benefits.

Can't blame some for complaining.

Yea, they were pampered kids during the biggest high in the winnning country after the biggest war the world had ever seen.

They were the abberation though, not the norm. The norm is to have to struggle to make a life.

It's like feeling robbed and cheated because you didn't win the lottery but your neighbor did...

Not quite.

Part of the boomers prosperity included placing burdens on future generations. Their generation also mismanaged this country.

It's no different than a CEO of a corp loading the company up with debt in order to boost the short term equity price so that he can profit from his stock options. Meanwhile, the company is screwed for the medium and long term.

It comes down to education, patience and your lifestyle. You have to have a plan. Not luck.

In the 70's, there were also fewer people competing for jobs. $30K is good money now in Texas. There is 401K and plenty of benefits.

From the time you're in elementary school, teachers and most parents stress the importance of going to college. I even find I do this with my own children. I'll say stuff like "its important to go to college because of blah, blah, blah". The fact of the matter is that most people who are "set" financially right now (at least who i know) are small business owners and guess what? Most of them didn't finish or even attend college!

Don't get me wrong, college is a nice place to gain social skills and figure out what you're interested in, but this whole notion that in order to prosper in America you need to go to college at any cost, like obtaining tons and tons of "good debt" is bs.
To all you gen-yers, start a business, work really hard and "luck" will come! That's the American way!

30k isn't good money anywhere. Who are you kidding.

You're right. For most, college is worthless. I'd say it's worthless for all non technical degrees.

The business route isn't for everybody. Nowadays, who are business savvy wouldn't even be able to start one because there's literally no funding. Go try to take out a business loan for a new establishment. Unless you put up heavy collateral you ain't getting anything. On the other hand, why would you put up heavy collateral when the rule is you will most likely fail before you succeed. Are you going to risk it?

Go to friends or family? Oh, most Americans are broke.

You can have the greatest model and product in the world but without capital it isn't going anywhere.

It's not so easy in good times to start a business. Let alone during the ****show we have now.

I'm not saying you're wrong. It's just that some things are out of individuals control sot o speak.
