For Japan to have a strong economy in the future, it'll have to develop a consumer culture. Only problem is that demographics get in the way of this. I can't take create for this, but "Japan is like a fly looking for a windshield to crash into". Its economy is destined to either slowing fade away or end in an epic collapse should its government debt blow up.
My post is to focus on what we need to do to get things back on track. There's no way the U.S. should ever struggle as it currently is. We've got abundant resources and are great at bouncing back whenever things go wrong. I believe we need to start dictating global trade policy rather than allowing others to dictate it to us. Trade deficits in the hundreds of billions of dollars are unsustainable.

Hi fitz99clem,
Japan would be a unique culture indeed if it were one to spend more money after giving everyone a pay cut. All they ever do is weaken the yen.
