Have you followed the police state laws that congress has thrust on the American People?

The Constitution is no longer the law of the land, none keep their oath sans Paul. The bought and paid for leaders have sold us out.

Being on top isn't great when your an evil empire.

This country is a shell of it's past glory.

Your history books can provide that answer very easily!

Return to its glory days? Did that ever happen with the British, Spanish, Venetian or Ottoman Empires?

Indeed, history does teach us something...

as Plato's Republic suggests Tyranny may follow Democracy but in this case it may as well be oligarchy that is followed by democracy, the oligarchs that represent the 1% that control and influence everything that ever happens in this country.

And as Oyzmandias mentions that all great civilizations will meet their ultimate demise just as history has mentioned many a time.

No, I think the glory days are finito and hasta luego.

In my opinion, the glory days flew away when the emphasis on profit and accumulating corporate war chests became so prevalent that firms began outsourcing work to other areas of the world.

There is nothing wrong with the word profit----it is the sacred principle of capitalism.

That being said, instead of moving their operations to other areas of the country to reduce expenses and increase profits, they moved their base of operations to underdevoped nations and told their American employees saynora folks.

Yes to a point unionization contributed to this----but again they could have transferred their plants to right to work states here instead of going for the corporate kill in hiring labor for $2 an hour overseas.

Sorry---to me that has contributed to demise of the industrial and economic base in this country----and since the floodgates have openned it will never return. This same principle holds true for large corporations who dodge paying federal taxes by paying taxes overseas and using this as a tax dodge shell game.

Corporations and major industries that trot out the patriotic slogans and lingo-----nah, doesnt work for me.

The glory days most refer to are long gone. What we have now is a nation that can still offer great things for it's citizens in the long run, if they are willing to work hard for them. Simple question... Would you rather live and work here, or China?

Mission statements from my early 80s business classes:

Accounting - To accurately record the inflows and outflows of the organization according to GAAP.

Finance - To maximize shareholder's wealth.

Management - To balance the needs of the organization, the development of the employees, and corporate responsibility.

Marketing - To meet the needs of the customer and society.

Mission statements from my late 80s MBA classes:

Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing - To maximize shareholder's wealth.

I think were witnessing the results of the shift.

I also find it interesting how the mission played out in the stock market. At first a short period of record levels of return followed by an extended period of substantial decline resulting in a decade of essentially no return.

If America wants to regain its greatness we need to reevaluate our business mission statements.

The "glory days" came from a special circumstance. World War 2. Every serious competitor was wrecked. Their manufacturing bases bombed, infrastucture shelled, housing burned, shipping sunk.

America was left with ports on two oceans, an intact manufacturing base and infrastructure, and a world of customers that needed desperatly to buy stuff to repair itself.

And that led to a misunderstanding. The notion that Americas success came from doing stuff that worked. When the real reason was there was no competition. Today, there is actual competition. America is stuck with the notion that it can keep doing the stuff that worked 50 years ago, in the face of a very different world.

Have to "repent" of what brought US down.

Usually repentance only comes after enough suffering and pain.

We may have not have enough of the suffering and pain, yet.

A few sacred cows will likely have to be thrown overboard . . .

1. Dump Reaganomics -- i.e., Wealth through Debt.

2. Tariff on Imbalanced Trade.

3. Take US off Oil -- at least for ground transportation to start.

That is where the the wealth is going -- Debt Service, Global Transnational Corporations/ imbalanced trade, and Oil.

But all those are solely the domain and profit centers of the 1%.

After that, the rest of the FIRE (Finance, Insurance, Real Estate) industry becomes the targets. That is the domain of the next 5%.

Real Deal -- The enemy of US is inside the gates.

Correct, Grim Reader, and now, via the Free Global Market, we'll find out if we are up to the task of competing. I think we are somewhat, but people will have to increase their skill sets, and still, get acclimated to a smaller slice of the worlds' GDP. But yes, on average, we will still be better off than the vast majority of the worlds' population.

There's your answer.
Dont go only on numbers, go for reasons also. In 70s and 80s, best engineers and doctors used to migrate to USA from india for better life as good jobs were not there. now they get great jobs there. the indians migrating now are either those who could not get admitted in elite universities of india come to US as it is very easy to get admission in american universities. or those who come for software contract jobs as 1 dollar = 50 rupees so as to make some savings.
