Default Would you support a new National Speed Limit?

When I learned to drive we had a national speed limit of 55 mph. This as I remember was signed into law because of the oil crisis of that day. Seeing that gas prices have tripled if not quadrupled since then would you support a return to the 55 mph standard?

I agree with a national speed limit, but I think it should be a bit higher than 55.

No, the speed limit on the highways should be left to each state to decide for themselves. It's a basic state's rights issue, and we don't need the federal government coming in and deciding that one size fits all. There's WAAAAAAY to much of that going on these days. The feds need to stay in DC.

Yes, that was a huge debate back in the day but we learned to accept it and of course, flaunt it if we wanted. Some states lost federal funding for roads when they failed to lower the limit.

I do little highway driving in this day so a return wouldn't really affect me much so I voted YES! We need to cut oil consumption and this would help a lot. The highway speed in SC where I live on some interstates is 70 mph.

That's because there was, um, you know, a "crisis" and your government used that "crisis" to rear its ugly head and exercise control and lord over people, because, you know, that's what governments do.

It doesn't save gasoline. It doesn't save lives. It doesn't do anything except allow the turds in the pseudo-federal government to wave a lot of money around demanding that States do this or that, or they get no money.

Politically...

No...if there HAD to be a national speed limit for highways, it should be closer to 70mph. 55 is insanely slow for highways.

No national speed limit. And with gasoline being so cheap, that's not a reason to have a national speed limit. During the oil crisis, there was a shortage of refined oil. That's not the case today.
