I know most of these threads are about long-term investing, but for those of you who are interested in the inner workings of the financial markets, the reason stock and commodity prices move, and you want to know how things really work, not the glossy and incorrect postcard version that's always hyped, the following books are the most accurate and honest in my opinion:
West of Wall Street. Angell.
The Nature of Risk. Justin Mamis.
Fooled by Randomness. Nassim Taleb.
Wall Street: the Other Las Vegas. Nicolas Darvas
Reminiscences of a Stock Operator. Edwin LeFevre
Liar's Poker. Frank Partnoy.
How to Triple Your Money Every Year with Stock Index Futures. Angell. (A ridiculous title, but there is a chapter dedicated to explaining how floor traders operate by taking the opposite side of retail orders, deliberately running stop loss orders, etc., which is highly instructional.)
Even you are only mildly interested in markets, these books are entertaining and educational. One of the best lessons that can be obtained is understanding why the "un-informed public" (ie, anybody who is not in the investment banking business) is always doing the wrong thing at the wrong time when it comes to investing and trading.
Wealth of Nations
On the Principles of Political Economy and Taxation(Ricardo)
JS Mill principles of political economy
Progress and Poverty
Capital
The Theory of the Leisure Class
The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money
The Road to Serfdom
Stabilizing an Unstable Economy
Without question the best money book I ever read is........
The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America's Wealth. By Thomas J. Stanley & William D. Danko
Most money books speak only to the white collar class where this book speaks to all classes of people.
