because I don't need to spend 150 bucks on a pair of designer jeans that are still made in a foreign country. I have thought about spending 50 bucks to get the american made ones you can order online from american outfitters, but will not spend obscene money for image reasons. As a guy I end up putting holes in my clothes anyways from just being not very careful... that or getting bleach stains on them.

I do try to buy american, german, or japanese made when possible though... but ultimately look at quality for the dollar first.

Also, I like the self-checkouts at wal-mart. Also they lowered the price of a brick of .22 ammo down to under 24 dollars... when you can find it in stock.

The one thing I shop at Walmart for is underwear for my 3 year old. I don't "wash" his undies when he has an accident and I can buy a ten pack at Walmart for $7. Cheaper than diapers Otherwise, I would really prefer not to go there. I must admit many things are cheaper there but they often don't have the items I am looking for grocery wise and the produce always seems sub par. I also hate taking my kids in that place because the junk food is on display everywhere. They always ask me for that giant size clear container of cheese puffs. Yuck.

Have to agree, that's why you see some of the obese people there filling up carts with cookies, chips and other fattening junk food, it's cheap and prominently displayed.

Me too. I've that crap down to a science. Nice smoothe rythm not too fast or the scanner gets upset I don't click start or finish to pay I just start scanning stuff and pay when I'm done. No need to wait for the prompts from the machine. I don't get why this stuff is so confusing to many people?

Slowest checkout lines at any Wal-Mart were in the Mexi-Mart that I lived near. Whew, that place was slow. They really needed to update the store with self scanners post-haste.

We often use the cell phone to find each other at Costco, on the rare trip to Walmart we usually stick together.
I never saw that use but I was an 87 kid so my experience was my dad using that on I-495 for cub scout outings. For Boy Scouts, I was a walkie-talkie user trying to keep the caravan together as co-pilot. This was in 99/2000 when cellphones were still not huge.

I actually find that more at Sam's and Costco but I agree, there is a lot of junk you can find on display and it isn't just Walmart.

How many people in line ahead of you? How many items in their shopping cart? We are timed on our transactions and I average about 850 scans per hour. The average order seems to be about 35 so it shouldn't take more than a few quick minutes to scan an average order. I know that nobody in my lines wait 20+ minutes. Some will take more time than they should for various reasons but if things are going smoothly I can put through at least two or three orders in 20 minutes. There are things that slow me down like removing a ton of hangers from clothes but I've got that down to a science too.

I was once a cashier at Target, so I'm not blaming any one individual.

More staff could alleviate many of the problems that plague a modern Supercenter.

Don't really care too much for walmart, but I'm poor and the price is right.

I'll mix it up a bit and try to spread my money around town (the little bit that I have) .

I just ordered some household essentials in bulk (shampoo, conditioner, detergent, soap, dog food, etc.) at walmart online ship to store, it's right up the street from work, so I'll avoid the long lines and products are cheaper online.

Typically I'll buy my clothes at thrift stores, it may not be made in America, but it's recycled in America .
