At any rate, maybe I am a little naive, but I think the colonists were deeply against the plutocratic English system and wanted to found a true republic. Yes, they were wealthy and they were few, but they did imbue power to the people and to the original states, not to themselves.

The US has been an actual Oligarchy since the coup of 1913. The 16th Amendment, the 17th Amendment, and the Federal Reserve Act, combined to bring about a coup d'état which took control of the American government from the people and gave control of our country to a small group of men.
