Private industry is not always the superior solution:
There are people that believe “government’s the problem rather than solution. I heard Milton Friedman state that half of what our federal government’s spending is wasted. A great proportion of all other than federal spending, (including commercial and personal spending) is also “wasted”.
We, as individuals generally believe that governments’ spending for what we approve of, to the extent that’s spent in manners that we approve of, is justifiable; all other governments’ spending is less than justifiable. That’s politics. There are extremely few items of governments expense that are not controversial. Governments’ lines of expenses are criticized or subject to objections by some aggregate individuals or groups. Political disagreement occurs more so in democracies but also occurs within nations of only one political party or of extremely few leaders.
Outsourcing some specific government functions would be contrary to the public’s interest. There are some government functions that can be outsourced, but government rather than private industry provides them in a superior manner. Many other nations provide their population Wi-Fi, medical insurance, railroads and other public transportation at lesser expense and in a manner superior to that of the United States. It’s nonsense to contend that private industry does or will perform every function in a manner superior to government.
In the Soviet Union all services were provided by the government and the motto of the happy service “employees” was “They pretend to pay us and we pretend to work”.

That's not really the issue in relation to your thread title, it's more about whether government can do something more efficiently or cheaply than private entities.

This isn't proof that the government is the best one to provide these services.
Milton Friedman came to believe that a fixed guaranteed income regardless of need at a low level would be better than the current system because the overhead costs would be so much lower.
People needing more than that amount would be provided for at the discretion of private charity.

Respectfully, Supposn
Your posts are tiresome because you present very colorized and simplified personal opinions as facts. Ease off on that and try again.

Lieqiang, the thread’s title is “Private industry is not always the superior solution”. Yes, you’re correct. The issue is, which functions are best performed by government or non-government entities?

EDS, I post some facts, and/or what I believe to be logical conclusions, and/or opinions. Unless you explicitly state what you object to within my posts and specify how or why you find it objectionable, how can I know what you're suggesting that I "ease off on"?

How would you feel if the military were privatized?

In the 1980s Charles Murray analyzed the American system of welfare and subsidies for low-income people and came to the same conclusion. Between the inefficiencies of government and various middle-men, over half of the money appropriated is dissipated before any benefits reach the intended recipients. IOW we would accomplish more by simple giving them the money outright.

MShultz, I’m neither an advocate nor opposser of guaranteed income, but I do question its feasibility.
I continue encountering references to Milton Friedman’s advocacy of guaranteed income, but I’ve never encountered any his writings or credible quotations indicating his actual viewpoint on the subject.
I believe no U.S. Congress will pass a fixed guaranteed income act prior to our nation having experienced some years of living with a substantially increased federal minimum wage rate annually monitored and updated to retain that rate’s purchasing power.
It's not possible to bypass necessary preliminary steps and achieve passage of a guaranteed income act.

I'd be against it.
