Quite a lot of people shop at coops, farmers markets, often paying more for the same things you can get from other sources.

Many choose to live in urban areas and pay astronomical property taxes.

If these people aren't particularly rich, does it make financial sense to spend like that?

Absolutely.

I HATE Amazon and scumbag companies like Amazon that put storefront businesses out of business. Jeff Bezos is scum.

Local. Everything.

Not exponentially more but marginally more... Of course.

The same as it benefits you to buy from the regional UNION store vs the national non-union store.
Even if it might cost you $10 a week more to do so.

Local Shops and Farmers Markets typically aren't involved in the casino game on Wall Street and help keep economic power local. I shop local as much as possible in small grocery stores, small hardware stores and mom and pop restaurants.

You are missing my point and question. The question is whether it makes personal financial sense. If it's "even if" then does it still make much financial sense?

Personal financial sense? No. Personal ethical sense, Yes. Who would you rather give your sales to, your neighbor down the street or a family of 4 that has a combined wealth greater than the rest of the nation.

Whoever gave me better value for the money.

Retail is really a value-added principal. Someplace like WalMart is cheap but adds very little (or detracts) from the value of the stuff you buy there. I mean, great, you got something at WalMart but you also had to suffer through going to WalMart to acquire it. In a lot of cases local stores provide more value than WalMart even though they are more expensive. In other cases they don't.

Amazon is great other than the lack of ability to kick the tires before buying. It's where I do most of my irregular shopping.

I tend to agree with this. It's whatever gives me better value for the money.

Somethings are not different in walmart or a different store.

And whether that reckoning is limited to the immediate hour ...or the year or decade as a whole.

To me, I guess it depends on an individuals financial standing? If you have 20 dollars in your bank account and by going to the local market, you won't be able to get enough for groceries for the week, then no, it does not make sense. If you have deep pockets and you can easily afford to shop local markets, then yes it is perfectly fine because local markets are something you can easily afford and support.
