Really? I'm paying $4 per square foot per month. I would be shocked and flabbergasted if inflation-adjusted rents were that high in the 1950s.

There is no reason to make English the Official language other than create more tensions between Americans.
English is by default the language of communication by all Americans that might have come from different countries with different languages and it will continue to be unless you want to be stuck in some particular area of the country with few chances to really succeed.

The majority of young Hispanics unless they happen to have recently arrived speak English better than they do Spanish

We will be a multilingual nation and English will be the bridge that allows the different groups to communicate

It much like when I and sisters bought parents a new Frig. in mid 60's and then we bought mother in law one few years ago. Both where side by side with mother in laws being larger and having ice maker. 60's cost was 1200 dollar and mother in laws was 900.
