2500/month leaves me with 2382/month. Housing is 1200, utilities are 436, Health insurance is 250. Food is 450. savings, rent, utlities, insurance and food, I'm down to $4830. My monthly take home is 4882. I cannot have fun with $52/month. I can't even buy a pair of shoes with $52.
Where do you live and what kind of house are you living in? I spend much less than $436 for utilities, including a home phone, internet, gas and electric. My house is 1440 sq. ft.

I just estimated the 436. Im not sure what'd it cost, but I think it'd be around $250-300 so I overestimated to 436.

For some apartments heating and cooling is included.
When I had my first apartment my electric bill was around $45 a month. I always hop around for the best cable/Satelite offer so my bill stays under $50 a month. I pay $30 for high speed internet. $430 is a high estimate but at least you're over estimating. Is your cell phone bill included here?

1000/month is pretty much the cheapest 1 bedroom apartment I could find find near where I work and want to live. I put in 1200 month since I'm estimating now. Yes, cars are my biggest hobby, and 550/month is 11% of my take home. Thats 33k financed 4 years with 12k down. Some people are gaming enthusiasts, they buy 2-3 games a month thats 180/month. Some people spend 200/month on bars. Some like fine dining and spend 300/month on resteraunts, etc.... I spend the extra $$ over a lower car payment on my hobby. Ideally I'd want by payment to be $625, but $550 is the highest I want at 22. By 32-33 I should be making 100k+ (without bonus), and by then I can spend a lot more on cars. I have no idea what utilities would be, I just sorta guessed 436.
Ok. I doubt the utilities will be that high on a 1-bedroom apt. Probably will be around $100/mo. give or take for the basics, internet can be had for $20. If you want cable that can add another $50-$70/mo.
I used paycheckcity.com to calc. my estimated taxes:
Annual Gross Pay$80,000.00
Federal Withholding$15,293.75
Social Security$4,960.00
Medicare$1,160.00
Net Pay - 58,586
I plan to contribute to retirement but dunno how much that would be. I plan on retiring around 67ish, so abou t 45+ years of working.
10% of gross income is the standard advice, if you want to be extra-careful you can do 15% in case SS or Medicare is severely reduced when your turn comes around.
I like eating out, and groceries would probably be around $120 x 2 times a month = 240. $60 for eating out/fast food and another $100 becuase I'm estimating and would rather overestimate.

True car hobbyists don't finance their toys, but you have time..
Lower the utilities to this
Gas - winter 90-125, rest of year 20-30 if that
Electric - 50-100 month
Cable - 100

Much cheaper than $436.00
OP is in an HCOL area so I'd assume the apartment is small (<500 sq ft.) and has lower utility bills, or at least on the low end of your range.
$100 for cable would include some premium channels, right?
