Because we make more? It's a very simple concept of a progressive taxing system. I really have no problem with it. My hh income for 2014 was above 200k and my effective fed income tax rate was below 14%

This thread is really about what an excellent job Obama and the press have done at convincing poor people that they pay too much of the burden while "Fat Cats" never pay their share.

We never found all those "tax breaks for the rich" when we were working. That's because they don't exist. If you make a lot of money you're going to pay a lot of taxes. Not much you can do about it.

But America's worth it. I don't mind paying 35%.

I agree with this assessment.

Ok low,

Go back and read my posts. For arguments sake let's say the average salary is 20k. How does that "debunk" my argument?

Your stance that the avg salary in the US is 50k has been debunked but during that debunking I realized you didn't understand what household income means or that is vastly differs from personal income

Low,

Household is what it says, a household's income. An individual salary is that as well, an individual salary. Wow, you discovered America. What do you do for a living?

The SSA says the average wage is about 45k. Are they also debunked?

Average wages, median wages, and wage dispersion

i guess I paid more taxes than many of you here on this thread. I do feel fine however, as the law is fair among most people. But I can't imagine myself being low income and pay more taxes...it's just doesn't make any sense. There must be exclusions on income requirements...like different % base on different salary. for example, those who make more than 100k will pay the 29% if single and lower if married and have kids. Those who make less than 100k will pay 25% and etc...

I think this would make sure sense dont you think? yes, you make more money...you HAVE to pay more taxes. It's by basic percentile calculations NOT by anything else.

Avg income of 43k median of 28k. This is also not avg salary. I know this is hard to understand but half make less than 28k half. The avg salary isn't 50k but more importantly half make less than 28k

I work in the financial services industry

Where do you think I work?

Half making less than 28k means nothing when you have a bunch of people working part time, does it?

The average salary is 43k is more important because it gives you a better idea what the majority makes. I am not sure why we are even talking about this.

I have zero benefit to disclosing where I work

3 people live in a town. 1 makes 1mm a year one makes 30k and the other 15k. Median income is 30k and average is 348k. Do you really not see the issue? We are talking about it because you stated something as fact when you were incorrect and have continued to argue even though you were wrong

The "raw" average wage, computed as net compensation divided by the number of wage earners, is $6,704,657,596,370.41 divided by 155,772,341, or $43,041.39. Based on data in the table below, about 66.9 percent of wage earners had net compensation less than or equal to the $43,041.39 raw average wage. By definition, 50 percent of wage earners had net compensation less than or equal to the median wage, which is estimated to be $28,031.02 for 2013
