In some cases, it is actual. Ie, I live in a college town and one needs quarters; hence I am withdrawing cash from the bank in the form of rolls so I have enough for domestic needs.

In other cases, it is perceived. I have perhaps 100+ dollars around in dollar coins because I use them as part of character in Renaissance Festivals. A gold coin here, a silver coin there as a tip.

Indeed, in some regions, tucking a dollar bill of some domination into a waist band is another common form. Don't laugh, I've been there, saying I needed dollar bills as tips...and then realizing what they might have been picturing and having to clarify my position (being a Carny friend, I know a lot depend on tips).

What other forms are there that, perhaps, the common world might not be aware of?

Tooth fairy brings actual silver dollars to my kids, that's a pain, but they come in rolls of 20 and kids lose 20 teeth so it's a match made in heaven.
