Wow! Absolutely spot on there, and very well said (especially the bolded part).

I live better now than the king did in 1815.

Just Saying.

Good point. But did the king have flushing toilets?

You really think most people are narcissistic psychopaths and sociopaths? Wishing they had the power to exercise their will over others?

Why would he care? He had cute girls to wipe his butt and clean up the mess.

It's better to be rich nowadays unless your thing is illegal nowadays.

No, most people aren't. But as the saying goes, power corrupts. No one thinks it will corrupt them, but most of us are wrong.

Much of our happiness and self-conceptualization is relative. If the other guy has 3 goats and 2 pigs, while I have 10 of each, I'm rich and happy. If he has 10,000 of each, but I have only 5,000, I'm poor and miserable. If everybody lives wonderfully satisfying lives of delicious food, luxurious surroundings, impeccable health and so forth - but I occasionally get a headache, and my lawnmower sometimes doesn't start - that's unhappiness. If everybody suffers from dysentery, if genocidal raids in our village are common, but my hut remains clean and sanitary and not attacked by marauders, I'm happy.

Do you see the pattern?

I'd rather be the shaman in a paleolithic tribe, than Crewman Basic on the starship Enterprise.
