Technology is in the hands of psychopathic elites seeking more power and control. Most of us would join those psychopathic elites given a chance . Simple technological freeze doesn't address the underlying root cause, it just restricts our abilities to control and dominate surrounding world and each other.
Wow! Absolutely spot on there, and very well said (especially the bolded part).
Much of our happiness and self-conceptualization is relative. If the other guy has 3 goats and 2 pigs, while I have 10 of each, I'm rich and happy. If he has 10,000 of each, but I have only 5,000, I'm poor and miserable. If everybody lives wonderfully satisfying lives of delicious food, luxurious surroundings, impeccable health and so forth - but I occasionally get a headache, and my lawnmower sometimes doesn't start - that's unhappiness. If everybody suffers from dysentery, if genocidal raids in our village are common, but my hut remains clean and sanitary and not attacked by marauders, I'm happy.
Do you see the pattern?
I'd rather be the shaman in a paleolithic tribe, than Crewman Basic on the starship Enterprise.
