This is actually a pretty big deal and I'm surprised it's not hitting the news more. A lot of their ships have been seized and that includes all the customer cargo onboard

Been a terrible industry to be in for quite some time now. I expect the bankruptcies and consolidation to continue.

I thought Hyundai Merchant Marine just sidestepped bankruptcy by renegotiating their charter rates, and now they want to buy some of Hanjin's ships?

Wonder if this will have any effect on the ships leased by Hanjin but owned and operated by independent charters such as Seaspan?

Like other industries, mergers, acquisitions and consolidation are the new way. Eventually there will be little competition, and a lot of monopolies. In the case of ocean shipping, those with the new megaships and those ports that prepare from them will end up with all the work.

Fewer and bigger leading to Oligopoly control of prices to avoid market competition. How capitalist.
