Don't know anyone here would actually know this, but I thought it's worth a shot. Can't find an answer to this anywhere, and nobody else knows...

I'm working with several digital companies that pay me, and I have my recently defunct LLC's EIN on file with them. For whatever reason, I cannot update their data with my new EIN (for my new LLC), because their system says it doesn't match IRS records. I have a letter from the IRS that has everything in writing, and on paper, everything matches to a t, so I have no idea what's the issue, and these companies are of no help and won't budget in changing the data unless it matches automatically by their system.

The question is this: do I continue using my old LLC's EIN which is already in their system, or do I switch to my personal SSN instead? The problem is that my LLC is elected as S-Corp (and I'm paying myself a salary from the LLC profits), so I don't think I can use my SSN.

Also, I've already received a few payments using the defunct LLC's EIN. Will that be a problem somehow?

Will calling IRS about this help? I already have a letter from them confirming everything, so I don't know what else they can tell me. But there must be an issue somewhere, because it's several companies, not just one. Really don't know what to do here...

Defunct LLC. Whatever that means.

LLC elected to be an S Corp. Which LLC? The new one? The defunct one?

How do you want to get paid? Personal income or through the S Corp or through the new LLC which may or may not be the S Corp?

Too many questions, too many headaches. Ask your accountant. If you don't have one, get one.

Random advice from online posting is not going to help if the IRS comes after you; consult a qualified tax attorney and or Internal Revenue directly.

Defunct LLC means exactly that - an LLC that is no longer active.

New LLC elected as S-Corp. Old LLC was not elected as S-Corp.

I'm paying myself a monthly salary off of LLC's profits (which is elected as S-Corp).

I don't think an LLC is "defunct" until you file a final return. Just not doing any business for awhile does not cause an LLC to be defunct.

Consult your tax accountant.

Yes, it is. I filed a certificate of dissolution. It's officially cancelled in the state's database. Yes, I still need to file the final return for tax reasons, but the LLC is caput.
