There have always been doomsayers around predicting some great economic adjustment. I remember back in the 70s and 80s people talking about how the economy was ready to fall and it would make the great depression look like a picnic etc. But those were all people without any true experience in economic affairs. But over the last 5 or 6 months I have been hearing big CEOs and others in the know predicting some tough times ahead. It makes me think that this time there is something to all that talk.

CEO's are often lousy economists. In fact, they are often lousy CEO's.

Well, considering that the Glass-Steagal Act was never reinstated, does that surprise you? We're in an era when we'll simply be lurching and staggering from one economic crisis to the next, because there hasn't been the political will--or the political sanity and stability--to correct the flaws in the system. And the more that tax breaks are enacted, with dire cutbacks to various sectors of the budget, the greater will be the crisis, because there won't be any funds available to help soften the blow.

You think homelessness is bad now? Wait a few years, as the economic system is further destabilized and weakened.

It has been tough since I was a teenager, and now I'm a middle aged man.

I think economic crisis has become the norm.

Sorry to hear you were unlucky and missed out on the last few booms. But the economy has not been bad for 40 years, or 20 or 10.

One needs to be brave and buy when it makes you feel sick . And to sell when you feel nothing can go wrong and you are the master of the universe.

as to the OPs point, it would have been nice if the OP had included some quotes, some names some reasons....

Don't expect miracles. Especially from people who think they know who "people in the know" are from their being touted as such in the media.
