Someone finally gets it! Or, as I like to say; I'd rather be king of my tiny hovel than a serf in a rented mcmansion.
"Tiny homes aren't about how cool the tiny home is," says Andy Miller, executive director of the housing nonprofit Human Solutions. "It's about the fact that the person living in the tiny home is king of that domain."
I have a normal sized house and I am the king of that domain. What's the point?
Near where I live? If you can do that I’ll eat my hat.
THEN MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is not a difficult concept; if you are in an area you cannot afford, then you relocate to an area you can afford, it is that simple. I did it, many people do it.
I do not understand why so many people who live in very high COL places and complain constantly about it, just do not relocate to a more affordable area. It is like you people think you are entitled to live in some specific place in the world.

Tiny house is just another niche of affluenza. Spend $600/sf for what you could easily build yourself for $30/sf. Works for some, including a local government subsidizing the $600/sf homes to meet the blossoming homeless crisis they created. (While discarded and excellent jails (with toilets and showers) remain empty.
Tiny house dreamers are good for me, as I have got some great deals on low mileage trailers... take the incompleted dream to the dump, and rescue the trailer!
<sigh.> Please note that the antonym of tiny house is NOT McMansion. McMansion has little to do with size, although most McMansions are not small. The defining characteristic of a McMansion is bad, imbalaned architecture, not size.
The word McMansion is not a synonym of large house.
I was simply replying to OP's comment: "Someone finally gets it! Or, as I like to say; I'd rather be king of my tiny hovel than a serf in a rented mcmansion."

Yep, someone living in the back of their car is king of their domain too, but I sure wouldn't want to do it.
Tiny homes are not the solution for high cost areas. Those areas are expensive because so many people are crowding in and there isn't enough housing.
So, you can put 12 tiny houses on an acre and house 12-14 people. Or you can put a 20 story tall apartment building on that acre with 16 apartments per floor (more than the tiny houses because there is no space between the apartments ) and house 320 families on the same footprint of land.
In some of the really crowded cities, they are building micro studios, so the tiny house people should be happy with that.
