I'd be curious about this myself. What exactly is systematic about a nutcase shooting people?

Both parties support this shift. Oligarchy is a better description (rule by the wealthy). Or totalitarian state. The "communist" part will only be a necessary expansion of welfare as workers and consumers gradually become irrelevant due to AI and automation. There are plenty of useful idiots on both sides.

Oligarchy worked well when the prosperity of the rich and the masses were aligned (a side effect of consumer capitalism). But that is no longer the case.

You don't have to "know" anything to realize that those with great power and wealth conspired to get it, and conspire to keep it and expand it. It's a 24/7 job.

I'd also be interested in becoming enlightened (illuminated?)!

Zarathustra was right: "Die Welt ist tief, und tiefer als der Tag gedacht." So what? The world is getting more complex, more variegated and inscrutable. So what? Are we getting more prosperous, or poorer? I think the former - overwhelmingly so. Are we getting healthier, or sicker? Debatable, but overall, I'd say healthier. Freer, or more confined and surveilled? The latter, unfortunately. But is it a conspiracy? Who exactly is conspiring?

How is that a conspiracy? If I run a car-dealership, and I coordinate with my fellow car-dealers to lobby our Congressman, to pass a law prohibiting sale of new cars directly from the manufacturers, so that instead, dealerships must get the business - well, that's underhanded, scurrilous and vile. But how is that a conspiracy?

It is always and everywhere the nature of power, to maximize itself, to sideline and diminish rivals, to manipulate and mollify the public. How could it be otherwise? And how is this a conspiracy?

Are they not sort of Copy-Cat?
Like when you see teen suicides occur in waves within the same region or school district?

Look at the decline rates in your Permean basin and Bakken fields.
You keep insisting that the producers are losing money as if they were stupid and thinking that maybe producing more will somehow make a losing operation profitable.

That's delusional, most production is profitable at prices just North of $20 and US annual production rates are just about to surpass 10 million bbl/day.

Very few new wells are being drilled, so that vast majority of this increased production is coming from those "declining" fields.

There is a psychological pattern that we are not really considering as a country.

I think that mass shootings should be looked at in the same category as suicides, because that's usually what they are - a very dramatic way to go out. Most of these events involve the shooter turning the gun on themselves before they're caught.

Most suicidal people have no desire to inflict pain on others, and actually don't want to include others in their pain at all. But a very small percentage do, and do so dramatically in this fashion, taking a bunch of other people down before they go. I don't think it's a coincidence that the suicide rate has skyrocketed 50% among American males since the 1990s, at the same time as an alarming increase of mass shooting incidents in the same time period.

The 5th Pathology - The utter inability of a large segment of our American populace to think critically about the issues we face for little more than the fact that they don't like book learning' intellectuals, scientists, or people who have deep knowledge. Therefore we have climate change denialism, anti-vaxers, trickle down economics, anti-free trade, conspiracy theorists, and so on.

Rome didn't die in a day. Either will we. But surely as Trump is president, this will be the century of China and not the United States. Truly sad, given all the advantages and the great head start we had to squander to get to this point.
