Renting sucks, I've never known a food insecure renter who "more like to rent than buy". Not only are they food insecure, they are usually also housing insecure since they have zero control over inevitable rent inflation which occurs simply Because Landlords Can.
I meant "likely".
There is this thing now called "market rent", which means whatever the landlords have gotten away with. The apartment cartels compare and identify the highest paying renter, and the term gets tossed around as if it is some official guideline.

This is a really odd viewpoint. I can't wait to sell this house and go back to renting. I'm tired of upkeep, property tax....that's about it. But that can be a LOT. I've owned 4 different homes and, in between 3 & 4 I rented a couple of times. WAY prefer renting at this point. What a burden it CAN be. Not necessarily but...
I find it odd there is some sort of "assumption" renters are doing so only because they have no other option. Or are poor. Those are uniquely American concepts if you look at the rest of the world. I rent for a million different reasons, but not one of them is because I can't afford home ownership. And it's not "throwing money away" if you look at how much people spend on repairs, property taxes, maintenance. Not to mention all of those hours spent on yard work. It's not for everyone. Me personally, I don't want to be at the mercy of a house, nor feel like I'm trapped and anchored down to a place that I may outgrow/tire of/want to sell at the wrong time.

It's not because they don't earn enough money? Because they haven't take the steps to improve their skills, move up into management, or used their degrees to get a better income?
IOW posters shouldn't be critiquing the articles they're including in the post.
I see.
