Hi. not sure if this is in the right section. I just wanted to post and get feedback from others. With the new tax laws, and the change to the federal withholding schedule, my employer took almost nothing out for federal taxes for those listing married (mine was under $20), regardless of exemptions. Those who listed themselves as single got the correct amount taken out (same pay as me $450). This change/error is this pay period, which is the first for us with the new withholding schedule. This Has anyone else had this experience? Thanks.
If your employer or his payroll service is using updated tax tables, it's probably correct. I don't know offhand what the zero-tax level is for MFJ, but with the doubling of the standard deduction and other cuts, very little withholding is probably about right up to an expected $30-35k for the year.
I wouldn't spend the extra, though. The tax system is likely to go through a couple of corrections before you actually file for 2018, and it's not going to decrease your taxes.
Sorry if my previous post was not clear.....I make almost 100k a year....get paid bi weekly...usually get about $500 in federal tax taken out each pay period...large employer, fortune 500 company.....$16.69 for two weeks is not right. Those who listed themselves as single got the correct amount taken out, those who listed themselves as married did not. Obviously it is a mistake, just wanted to know if other companies are having the same issue, or making the same mistake. Thanks.
Use your wages, pay period and w4 withholding exemptions and compute what the amount should be. If your actual withholding is wrong, then tell your employer.

thanks. I'll look it up.
This was the first pay period they used the new withholding schedule.
Thanks all -- yes, I know it's screwed up. This was the first pay period with the new withholding schedule. I will be calling them first thing in the morning.
