Look to history. We tried that. After WWII we tried to disarm and go back to peacetime functioning. Our longstanding mantra had to not get involved in expensive intrigues in Europe. With the power vacuum left behind from the end of the imperialistic age, things got dicey, and reporting got better....and the USSR, to the surprise of nobody watching....showed the world that it was Communist and all but annexed the countries it took, while spreading its mantra throughout Asia as the anti-imperialist.

America was a country for the rule of law vs the rule of an autocratic leader. Whether that leader be a King, Military Dictator or Communist Dictator. If America shrinks from the field now, China will undoubtedly annex Taiwan, and force close relations onto SE Asia just as Moscow had close relations with Eastern Europe.

The hope for China has long been that with economic liberalization and bringing them into the fold, they would abandon their Communistic ways and become a country of rule by law and perhaps even a proponent of Democracy. As Xi gets his constitution rewritten currently to allow for no term limits and rapidly propels their government's role into industry, censorship and in what actions are allowed by companies, it's obvious that we have a new Communist monster in the making that is crushing the individual wills of the Chinese. That dragon is set to expand, and their Made in China 2025 program is targeting all the key industries that the US currently leads in. To communists, stealing the tech necessary is just as good as developing it. There is no moral distinction.

Elsewhere, countries all have a delicate decision to make. Democracy is messy. Freedoms take time to be tolerated, later accepted and finally rejoiced in. Even here we progress forward in freedoms, and lurch back when we've gone further than what popular opinion allows...but we make progress forward. For a country that is too autocratic, holding it's people in oppression and not developing there is a choice to be made. It is often easier to hang with other autocrats than it is to liberalize.

The US is the imperfect guiding light for countries to try. Rule of Law has been our mantra, which is why the Constitution even exists and why it is still venerated.

If the US won't fight for that to spread throughout the world, there are plenty of ideologies that would love to see it diminish and put in place their own. Ours may be rules to support minimums in the country...theirs are often punitive to make sure a country can't stand on her own. Markets close, opportunities get fewer....and now we have a large debt to talk about.

Sadly, this likely ends in war at some point. China just needs a bit more time to catch the US...

We didn't in any way shape or form get involved in, much less interfere with other nations.

We stopped giving any aide to any other country.

The only thing we focused our money on was making sure every U.S citizen had the best health care possible.
You mean, sort of like Wakanda?

Your Standard of Living would crash.

Failure to meet our defense objectives will result in decreasing U.S. global influence, eroding cohesion among allies and partners, and reduced access to markets that will contribute to a decline in our prosperity and standard of living.

Glad your government finally admitted to what I've been preaching here for the last 11 years.

Not one intelligence agency has ever claimed that "election systems" were hacked.

The only one to ever claim that was NBC news in a fake news article designed and intended to inflame and misinform.

What your intelligence agencies actually stated was that there were attempts to hack into the voter registration databases of 21 States, and that a few attempts were successful, but did no damage, did not cause any disruption and no data was lost.

If you want to count the Democratic National Committee as, um, an "election system", then that would make it 21 States and the DNC.
