Along with automation. We keep believing the glory days of coal and steel will return. They will not.

People do work in Construction, Fracking, Refinery, Food Processing industries. They are not exactly the Air Conditioned environment jobs. They will come for Factory jobs too.
What is more beneficial from American point of view? Importing or making that Steel here in the USA ?
Keeping these industries alive in this country. The overall move regarding international trade is to get parity in trade costs and stop practices that force intellectual property transfers as a trade extortion.
The manufacture of steel and aluminum requires very few workers. It is the fabrication of these metals that employees all the workers. Couldn't care less where the raw material comes from as long as it is fabricated HERE.
With these duties/tariffs a fabricator in Europe will have access to lower cost raw materials and thus have an advantage over a US fabricator making them more competitive.
There will be no new steel mills or aluminum smelters built in the US because of this move.

I’m looking forward to spending more for steel and aluminum products. I’ve deliberately tried to buy American made products, but they are not easy to find. I’m proud to be generating more demand for US jobs and indusrtry.

I don't have any problem generating jobs and industry wherever honest hard working people are trying to support their families and provide for their security and well-being. They don't have to be wearing US flag lapel pins in order to deserve that.
I buy steel products when I need them, not as a patriotic gesture.

The problem with factory jobs is automation and outsourcing. Construction is difficult to outsource or automate. Fracking is a new industry. Refineries are likewise not that easy to automate(i.e. every batch of oil is slightly different). Food Processing can be A/C but really the machinery does a lot of the work(i.e. A plant could triple production and not add triple the amount of workers).
Manufacturing like building cars is much easier to automate or to outsource than other industries and simply does not require as many people as it did in ages past.
Many on here don't understand that these tariffs are not just about saving one industries jobs, Its about forcing other countries to open there protectionist markets to American goods.
These countries are enjoying free access to American markets while protecting there own markets from American business.

If this move will create more jobs in the Europe, those countries actually will be happy on this move of levying Tariffs. Instead they are worried about Job Losses.
If they are also losing jobs, somebody must be gaining jobs. USA ??
