Some people love their careers and will happily work well into their 60s or later. Others would retire today if they could. If you fall into the latter category, there are several strategies you can deploy to bump up your retirement date. I utilized a couple of those strategies and was ready to walk away or retire early but then, a funny thing happened - everyone in our little operation retired, was moved back east or took another job and I was left as the last man standing in our local operation.
Instead of offering me early retirement last year, I was sent to work from home and my job satisfaction increased five-fold as a result. I still think an incentive to retire is coming in the 12 months due to other factors but I passed 60 earlier this year and I'll keep working until it's no longer enjoyable. My ducks are all lined up.
