Just the forces of the markets at work; why do those who seek to live in the past expect the rest of us to bear the cost of their refusal to recognize change, and adapt to it?

I send out mail at least once a month, this month was 3 times a month. Price of stamps have been going up a lot, but atm 50 cents is hardly anything to care about.

The parcel division of the USPS is separate, and profitable.

It's the mail portion that is having problems because everything is done electronically.

I remember when the first class rate went from four cents to five cents, or a 25% increase.

I'm pretty sure we'll survive this.

First class postage is not subsidizing the parcel business. I don't doubt that Amazon gets a rate, but the USPS still makes a profit on the service to Amazon and other shippers.

Yep, Amazon and other companies get a bulk discount, like we do at Costco.

Yes, I sure miss package delivery. Don't miss letters at all. No mail here.

Life with no mail or packages is a lot less clutter, but less convenient on the latter.

I still get real mail. So for me the Post Office is still valuable.

Many government agencies still do business by mail. I had to send my mom's bank statements to the county for her long term care re-certification, and while I am using all my ink up printing out 12 months worth each from 2 accounts, I'm thinking "I could just attach these in an e-mail" but they still require the old fashioned way.

I also still send birthday cards to people who don't live close by.
