I love buying things from china for $0.99 with free shipping, so it comes with a heavy heart that I say- I agree with this move. It costs me $2.50 minimum to mail a connector or a component to someone, plus the cost of the part, so it's insane that you can buy parts + shipping for under a dollar so long as they originate from outside the US.

It definitely puts US sellers at a significant disadvantage, so it's right to try to put everyone on a level playing field.

From the article that the OP posted:

No where in that article does it state prices are going to rise.
I didn't read the article, so presumably there's no mention of price increase in it, but I read a few days ago that the Postal Service plans to increase the price of a first class letter by 10%, from 50 cents to 55 cents. I have no idea if that includes packages, but the prices are indeed going to rise.

I'm not sure what you mean by unreimbursed costs. By far, the biggest problems of the USPS stem from Congressional interference: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/karl-..._b_961602.html

I love the USPS; I don't want Congress to cripple it in order so that they can then argue that it needs to be privatized to break even or be profitable.

USPS would be doing just fine if it was allowed some autonomy to make sound business decisions, while also continuing to meet the needs of the American public.

If someone in China sends a package to, say New York, they pay the equivalent of about $3 to their post office. The package initially goes to LA. That package is then delivered by the USPS from LA to NY (a delivery that would cost you or I at least $8). The USPS estimates they spend at least $170 million/year delivering packages from China. I expect this discrepancy will be negotiated away, at least partially.

This seems to be just...logical? Does it really have to be partisan?

Good. Screw China.

That law was supposed to help poor countries. China is not poor anymore.

US online sellers have been asking for this to be changed for years. They cannot compete with sellers overseas including China because of shipping costs. This is especially true on low cost and low margin items. I always thought it was absurd that a seller in China can ship something here to the US for a dollar or two and our own postal service picks it up from the port and delivers it. However, a US based seller has to pay $5 to $10 to ship the exact same item using our postal service. This should have been shot down years ago and the playing field equaled.

Well, I for one am happy about this. Online sellers are having a tough time with sweetheart deals made long ago that hurts them....Fair is fair...

Yes.

People who are anti-Trump would say the sky is red if Trump said it was blue.

The far left is too unhinged to realize that this is the kind of crap that got Trump elected in the first place.
