They're not upset over the 6 cents; they're upset over the inconsistencies. I thought that was obvious.

Yes, everyone understood OP's point, as silly as it is.

The point is to simplify the software and process collecting returns, not to be 100% consistent in all calculations. I thought that was obvious. So to repeat myself, I can't imagine actually getting worked up over this. Anyone who gets upset over something this trivial must walk around angry 24/7.

I would have the same complaint if their comp were higher than mine.

Duh.

The point is that they insist on whole dollars, yet use odd cents.

Any of this sinking in?

We're missing the point because NOBODY LITERALLY CARES. It's six cents. It wouldn't matter if it were sixty cents.

I mean, holy smokes, I cracked open this thread expecting some nightmare story. Instead, we get a guy obsessing over a six-cent difference.

I bill $200 an hour. Six cents is literally 1.20 seconds of my time. And yet, I've devoted two minutes to this post.

Look, he's a numbers guy who is interested in these things and is presenting us with an incongruity. I think the thread title was tongue-in-cheek. Of course he doesn't care about the six cents - to him, it's a problem to be solved, that's all. We all have quirky perspectives about things that can drive us a little nuts.

It is because the irs manually enters paper returns in to the system and the person who entered the data probably rounded or that the system they use rounded.
