Technology seems to be evolving at a lightning speed imho just a matter of time before some else better steps in
They have an endless supply of under-cutters (rural route drivers) driving their own vehicles for a per-diem, not even hourly pay, and no benefits. Who would be able to best this business model?
UPS and FedEx rely heavily on USPS for significant share of their delivery, both to places they do not serve (rural ... the "last mile" of a delivery) and because USPS is cheaper.
Lose USPS and prices will jump greatly for everything.

It could easily be replaced by requiring companies to send e-bills that we can e-pay. UPS, Fed-Ex, DHL are all ready to expand package delivery. But the USPS is owned, lock stock and barrel by mass marketing, direct mail advertisers. They are a lobby group as strong as the NRA. Plus the Postal Workers Union will fight it tooth and nail.
Bad idea. DHL etc. would love to do the high-volume, high-profit part of the USPS' business, of course. But there's absolutely no money to be made in delivering to the rural areas - long drives for low volume. This is as true today as it was when the USPS was laid down constitutionally.
If market interests are allowed to decide, people in the sparsely populated areas would be priced out of postal service - just like they'd be priced out of electricity, roads, and telephony.

Won't happen. There are still too many people who either don't understand how to use it, and too many that don't trust it. All ages. Not just the elderly.

I don’t think you have a good grasp of what the postal service does. FedEx, UPS and DHl are absolutely not ready nor do they want to take on anywhere near the daily work. In fact they offload a ton of their shipments to the USPS so they don’t have to make all those residential deliveries
I work for a printing/direct mail company. We send out PLENTY of mail every single day. Junk mail isn't going away anytime soon.
You keep my shredder humming so that someday I will need to replace it and provide some much needed jobs.
