JCPenney, Gap, and Victoria's Secret all announce store closures. Telsa announced it will be closing some shop locations as well.

yawn ... all poorly run businesses, mostly part-timers, they should have no problem finding other store clerk jobs

Meanwhile, Costco, Target, TJMaxx, Whole Foods, Nordstrom, Old Navy, and even Barnes and Noble have announced new stores in 2019.

Stores open and stores close all the time, those that make it keep up with changing technology and customer preferences.

Last time I was in a mall, I glanced inside some of the stores. Most had only one yawning clerk and no customers at all.

Amazon has nothing to do with it. JC Penny and GAP have been on a downward trend for years and years.

I haven't been to either store in nearly two decades, and there's no reason for me to go, since there are so many alternatives.

There's not a lot of difference between GAP jeans made in Mexico, and Target, Wal-Mart, Steinmart, Marshall's and TJ Max jeans made in Mexico.

I can't speak about Victoria's Secrets, except to say that I would never shop there, since there are so many cheaper alternatives of equal or greater quality.

Tesla speaks for itself. It's a poor product that is over-priced, and the Chinese will probably blow Tesla out of the water anyway.

VS quality has been going downhill, the VS of years ago, is not the same now. I know this through my wife who use to shop their regularly, but now says the quality is just horrible and not worth the cost at all.

I haven't left my house in over 5 years because I order everything off Amazon. My house, my car, my pets, and my lover all came with 2-day Prime shipping. One delivery was 15 minutes late so I called and complained to Amazon and they sent me a second lover free of charge! Is this such a bad thing if Amazon is the only business left on planet Earth? Every business still standing today could be converted to an Amazon warehouse. 2-day shipping is so #2018.

Amazon is not a significant player in the apparel space...yet.

It is not responsible for Gap or Victoria Secret's decline which has been happening long before Amazon made play for clothing. The aftermath of the recession and subsequent changes in consumer behavior are responsible for that. People buy clothes now from discounters like TJ Maxx and Ross and Target, or from retailers that have focused on becoming leaner and more hip like Kohl's.

JC Penney's has been a poorly run company for over 10 years.
