It just wouldn't make good business sense to hobble ourselves that way.

Why stop there? Why not claim that capitalists would just go rob everyone on the street? After all that would maximize profits. Right? Same logic as your statement about cc.

People (thru the governments) set the rules. Then free markets create products that adhere to the rules. If people (thru government) decided that every car needs catalytic converter - so be it. That has nothing to do with capitalism or socialism or any other economic system.

Every AOC with IQ of 80 can criticize capitalism (to pander to the same IQ level followers). But every time socialists are asked to describe an alternative system that is better - you never get an answer.

P.S.
Why would anyone even listen to what AOC says? She is so dumb it is astounding. She drove Amazon out of NYC and wanted to give the $3 bln that Amazon would've received in tax breaks (after bringing $30 bln in taxes to the state coffers) to the people. As if those $3 bln were sitting there.
How it is possible to have a BS in economics and be so clueless? And now she is talking about capitalism as if she knows anything about the subject besides progressive talking points.

Oh, mostly because I don't bother engaging people who can't read for comprehension.

You decided I'm anti-capitalist, then spent half a page ranting and belittling a person I already consider politically irrelevant.

Feel free to jump back in when you can do more than trigger off misread keywords.

You blamed capitalism for not producing something (cars with catalytic converters) that is more expensive. I just pointed out that when you blame capitalism for something it is not supposed to do (set the rules) - it shows your ignorance.
AOC maybe politically irrelevant now, but with colleges producing millions after millions of brainwashed mini AOC every year - she might as well be very politically relevant by the time she is old enough to run for a president. And was it you who advocated for free college for all? Right, that what the country needs: more taxes on working people so that we had millions more of ignorant SJWs like aoc.
P.S.
And I decided to voice my opinion about AOC because this very topic is named same a the phrase she used recently. I know, those lowly peasants have a nerve to discuss someone who is considered politically irrelevant by great Quitetude.

competition and efficiencies.... important pillars ..

price/costs of products and expenses..

most of the private sector is based on competition...… yet government jobs are not ..

huge difference in efficiencies..

I still believe in the American dream.....starting your own business from humble beginnings
ive seen it first hand..a friend...dropped out of high school....lived in his car.....fixed a push mower and started mowing lawns...….worked 7 days a week.....he worked and saved and bought more equipment.....did quality work and picked up new accounts....bought new equipment and hired more help...
20 years later he lives in a house on the lake and has 15 employees ..

CAPITALISM has noticed that there is demand for "green" products. Therefore, CAPITALISM has stepped up and developed great new products to meet the demand.
And when "capitalism" noticed that workers were demanding unions, shorter working hours, and higher wages it met those demands with the police and national guard. It noticed when private property was nationalized or abolished and called out the army, IMF, and CIA.

Jesus was scorned in his day, he often talked about how much the world hates him and his followers, he was even killed. Yet 2,000 years later he's got billions of people around the world believing he's the son of God.

Because capitalism is not some wonderful utopia for every person on this planet. To me its like telling slaves to shut up, bend over, and take it if they question all the wonderful things about slavery. After all who is going to mine that salt? Who is going to going to pick my cotton if not slaves?

I am not a social-democrat, and am no follower of Ocasio-Cortez, but I don't think everyone who disagrees is some brainless idiot. If I get laid off tomorrow, should I praise my company? After all they are now more profitable and their stock should rise, no? I don't even think she's a socialist, she is not proclaiming "All power to the soviets" or talking about proletarian dictatorship.

That is a caricature of modern successful business.

Modern successful business is all about deeply understanding customer's wants and desires -- indeed, mentally "becoming the customer," and finding & recommending solutions to those customer's problems. Modern successful businesses understand they must seek to delight their customers within the context of the business' strategies & tactics. Disappointed customers do not return and ruin business reputations.

Modern successful business understands that the quality of an employee's output is NOT independent of total compensation for that employee -- low wage employees tend to produce low quality products and poor customer service; combine those two and that's a recipe for business failure.

Modern successful business understands customers are people, too, and those customers want the business to be part of the community. We see it in everything from charitable foundations set up by business to sponsoring little league teams to stepping up after major catastrophes to help out with donations & logistics.

Yes, there are some declining businesses that are all about contraction and squeezing rocks to get blood, but they are not long term viable enterprises. Over time they tend to go out of business.

Anyone can say capitalism is not perfect and think of himself as a great thinker. So if you are so smart - can you suggest anything better? Or maybe you know how to fix capitalism if you are not against it? I am all ears. Let's here some suggestions. That's what I was talking about: when you ask great thinkers about the solutions - it is the same socialist remedies that were tried and failed everywhere. You can call yourself whatever you want, but if someone is proposing socialist solutions - he/she is a socialist. Even if they put a democratic lipstick on the socialist pig and say that we don't want to take your cow (we just want to take all the milk so everyone has equal amount of it).

You might have missed it, but I never called for "no regulation" or anything approximating it.

My point is there is frequently a substantial difference between:

a) The regulation we want in order to have a civilized society, and
b) The regulation we get, which tends to serve entrenched economic players and special interests.
