Well, yes. That is our point--it was a completely different world back then.
And a long, stable career with that employer was the normal expectation.
Yeah that's a good point. Because employer's offered pensions (golden handcuffs) there was much less incentive to job hop in order to increase your salary. Therefore, employers were willing to hire and train young capable employees with the understanding that most of them would be in it for the long haul.

Just wait until Uber rides and Uber Eats can be put on payment plans. I guess they could get the Uber credit card and make minimum payments while crying for their student loan bailout.....

And they want to still bring in even MORE people into this country, putting further pressure on wages.

Yep today its walking into your local coffee shop or strip mall and asking if they are hiring.

When I looked around my social circle around my age, I see a lot of people with low wage jobs who I know are struggling. $12-$15/hr with spotty, if any, benefits is not enough to support yourself. Many of these people also have kids. I don't see how people do it with kids on a $30k-$40k HHI, even in a low cost area like this.
It wasn't the case thirty years ago.
Employers accepted their responsibility to train new hires into the work.
They also expected to actually pay them while they were learning.
