I've tried to use contactless payments at several places and they have never worked. Trying with Google Pay and a Pixel 2 phone. Tried at a Shell station that had the symbol, but no response from my phone. Tried at Starbucks and Walmart and was told it never works by the cashier. Does anyone actually use contactless payments anywhere, and how are you doing it: credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay?

I used Apple Pay at Sprouts before and had no trouble. I haven't used it in a long time. IIRC, I only used it because of a promotion on the credit card for using Apple Pay.

I havent because it's not more convenient for me. Cash vs card is a hell of a lot more convenient. Phone vs card. About same effort but now I'm putting all my banking info on my phone. I very rarely buy anything off the internet and when I do, I try to use paypal if i can.

Yes, no problem with my Visa card. I am actually disappointed now when a retailer does not offer it.

I use contactless credit card whenever it is available. Never heard problems but it's not available at my local Walmart.

I used apple pay for a while as a novelty, but probably have not done so for about two years now.
I use contactless credit card all the time. Some devices do not take it and I use the chip. No big deal one way or the other.

Apple Pay. A few months ago it was sporadic but now works anywhere for me where there is a terminal which accepts NFC. Target, Costco, gas stations, many fast food joints.
Except for Walmart They restrict it to their own proprietary contactless payment ecosystem. Don't go there much anyway.

Done it a few times on a Pixel 2 and on an iPhone 7. No problems with either. Kinda nice for those few times when I forget my wallet. Other than that don't really use it.

Go under Settings and make sure you have NFC (Near Field Communication) turned on.

Samsung Pay is the best. It mimics a credit card's magnetic strip and can be used on most credit card readers. Samsung Pay is superior to Google Pay and Apple Pay as it does not require a dedicated card reader with technology for those services.
