Froo froo places like this are the first victims of a credit crisis.

Although Levitz was more of a tradition and hollywood video baffles me.

Circuit City? Really?

I think Hollywood video's business model has been overtaken by technology, ie; netflix. I haven't been in a video store in about 5 years. I always thought Levitz was a bit "downmarket". Blood Bath and Beyond and Linens and things seem to me to be the same thing. I think we've only been in either of them twice in our lives, and that includes today when we purchased about $150 in LInens and Things.

I thought they were just closing a lot of stores, not all of them. Too many places, like Home Depot went through too much expansion over the past 6 years and it caught up with them.

A local BB&B is under new construction in our area. Interesting. Do you have a link to this announcement?

BB&B is not filing for BK. They just released lower than expected earnings and investors have been pounding their stock, but they appear able to weather the storm.

LNT is floundering and feared being unable to service their debt, but they secured a deferral and are optimistic that they can skirt around BK. Up in the air.

CC is in big trouble. They are making less than sound decisions and undergoing massive layoffs, including letting go some of their more experienced management personnel. Best Buy is eating their lunch. If anybody goes under, it will likely be them.

Levitz had inventory issues and, as golfgod pointed out, Hollywood Video had an obsolete business model.

Sharper Image was a bummer, but their merchandise had become somewhat shoddy for the price. Guess where it was made?

Adapt or die in today's fluid market. Some retailers are doing this very well; others are going to join that list.

Wow...I'm surprised to see Linens-n-things, because, the new mall that is being built here has one going in.

Smile Bankruptcy

I always believed - you got what you paid for - too bad about a couple of these stores. I thought Hollywood Video was so the 90's; Circuit City - that's a shame.

Some of these stores' stuff was so cheaply made; yuck, oh well.
