The experts tell us our costs are going up but wages will not match the increase. It would be to our advantage to cut $500 from our monthly family budget. This could go to pay increasing energy bills and save for upcoming deep economic recession in 2009.

Please tell us how your family is going to cut out $500 a month in spending.

Considering the tight budget I live on I guess it would mean giving up my house payment, or my car and insurance, or my groceries. Hmmmm, decisions, decisions!

I'd start taking public transportation to work, stop eating out as much, brown bag my lunches to work more often, and not take any vacations that require a lot of driving or flying. Even then, I probably wouldn't be saving $500 a month, but I doubt that I'll need to. I'd probably have to save around $250 a month (I don't drive very much as it is.).

Also, at that point my kids would be completely on their own when it comes to finishing their education, because I wouldn't be able to help them. Now that's just sad.

I don;t hae a ton to cut. I could cut cable that would only reduce our monthly bills by $50. DH and I work in opposite directions so e have to have 2 cars. I'm a teacher so a few of us are going to carpool in the fall saving maybe $20 a month. I'm only at $70 because we don't really have anything else to cut out as we really don't have anything to begin with.

My wife and I both used to hit Starbucks 4-5 days a week. That alone was about $300 per month, or more, plus the gas of going there. We invested in a very high end, Italian espresso machine. Not some cheap walmart special, but the real deal. It cost $1800. It paid for itself in about 6-7 months. Its been three years now and we love it. The best part, is we have perfected the art of making lattes and espressos. Better then going out for them and it saves us mucho bucks.

Another we have recently began doing is making a task list and hanging it on the fridge. We try and cordinate all errands with as many as we canon each trip to save gas. The amazing thing is we are spedning less on gas now, then when it was $2.90 a gallon!

We are eating at home more and buying much of our produce direct, at farmers markets. We used to eat out daily, often mutiple times. This has saved us at least $500 monthly!

I am neck deep in credit card debt and living WAYYY over my means right now. I landed a great job after college graduation in December and became careless with spending. Considering the current economic situation, Ill be surprised if I am still employed at the end of the year. I am definately up a creek, and there isn't really anything more I can cut for at least six months. After the first of the year, when the lease on my luxury apartment runs out, I am moving to the cheapest yet safe apartment I can get.
