I think what some of you are missing is how much of this country is owned by foreigners. Aside from the hypothetical "let's sell off the land to pay our debt" will not solve the problem in the long run; we may as well print more currency for that matter.

This is a far more complex matter that requires a far lengthier explanation.

we have already given our jobs to the foreigners

That day is coming.

But Argentina got "caught" quickly because they had to pay back in money they could not print. In the case of the US, we can "wipe out" the debts by wiping out the dollar. Since the present debt is in dollars, we actually own and control the debt. But that is the sole luxury of the world leader currency -- with a military to back it up. But those days are fading.

The other nations who hold our debt are sort of chumps in the short run, but in the long run, it will cause US to lose the world leadership. There are some long-term players in this, and they are just waiting for US to slip lower and lower. All indicators are that we will.

The solution is rather simple. The Fed needs to raise interests dramatically. There will be enormous pain and unemployment but we will bring back King Dollar, get rid of all the deadbeats on Wall street, destroy energy demand and screw the middle east.
Believe it or not, thats exactly what Australia has been doing to keep their dollar from slipping.
