I read something recently about Qatar being in a world of hurt.

Nevermind...it was Dubai.

Let Dubai suffer. The place exemplifies greed and waste, moreso than the good ol' USA, who helped fund their follies. Oh, the irony!

people, you can be down on the ol' USA but realistically we have both a lot more eggs and a lot more baskets than the oil-empires -- this $48/bl makes us feel pretty giddy at the pump, but that throws a heap of panic into the guys at the other end of the crude-oil production chain! Stable prices help the mideast shift its people from the crazy tribes, foriegn contract workers & insanely riche leaders into an educated modern society. If they respond to low prices by racketing down petro production that will hurt the ability of the US and global economy to get back on track to productivity gains. The whole world is woven together into a fragile web of global trade. By asking the mideast states to participate in a system that lends stability to the financial system it helps to ensure they won't suddenly "close the tap" on oil.

Anybody remember gas lines from the 70's? Not a good way to help grow out of a recession...
