You mean wrongful death? I don't how it will play out since the widow's husband shot first... I think the prosecutor is going to have a tough time convicting the guy even though he "breached the peace" he still had a right to defend himself...
Let this be a lesson. If you are behind in payments, do not park your car in front of your house. Either put it in the garage or find somewhere good to hide it somewhere. Must learn to be clever about these things.
Most people have to work, they just repo it while you are at work or if you go out or doing anything else... that's why repo works so well... these people don't typically just sit at home... they go out to restaurants, stores, party, whatever... they just don't pay their bills... repo is to take advantage of the opportunity...
If it is now the property of the lender, why is it not possible to consider it stolen property and have the police present when it is removed? I never understood the whole reposession game.
Its hard to do that to the police, the police are usually busy chasing high priority crimes than to find repossessed cars and even then, you need a tow truck which isn't a typical police vehicle... its more convenient and easy to have a "repo" person do it... as well as cost effective considering a car doesn't cost as much as a house (well, most cars anyway)...
I'll stir the ant nest by offering a simple solution:
Pay off your car, or buy a used one with plenty of life left. And keep the one you've got until it's more cost-effective to replace it rather than repair.
Rifles tend to make better stand-off and distance weapons.
