Uh? you sound pretty elitist...
nothing wrong with taking cabin baggage that passengers are entitled to. If it fits in an overhead cabin then it is his entitlement to take it onboard, if it fits under the seat then an additional piece is allowed as well.
I usually take a small bag for the overhead and a small backback (under the seat) for quick trips (2-3 day), I don't want to check bags in and endure the several extra hours it takes to check it in at origin and then collect it at the destination.
Now, I have seen people bring bags onboard that are so large that in my personal opinion should not be allowed into the cabin because they take multiple overhead spaces but then again it is for the particular airline to decide this not myself so I don't really care.
