in the memphis area i see the restaurants full of people, but that happened after the crash of 1929 also.

The crash happened over several years with "it's over" inbetween.
1929-1932

The market crashed in 1929 but didn't hit it's lowest level every until 1932. Inbetween it recovered and everyone thought it was over.
