You could have gotten into legal trouble too.

Not sure I follow.

In any event, I'm pretty sure that passing out drunk on one's own property is not a crime (assuming this is a walkway that goes away from the sidewalk).

I most places intoxication in public is a crime. thatt is why it give the police rights to get involved. I agree that you made a very common mistake and that the poice acted respeosibilty in haveing you take to teh hospital. If they had left you and you died as people do on alochol or by drowning in their own vomit that would ahve been irresponsible.Passing out is your body telling you something.Live and learn is what I say.

There may not be any debt to pay.
If there is, see an attorney. He may be able to relieve you of the debt based on the fact that you never agreed to to to the hospital. A similar situation happened to my mother. She was drunk and walking home but couldn't remember the address because she had just moved in 2 days prior after the death of my father. They kept her in the hospital for 3 days and there was never a bill. She did have to go to court to fight the drunk in public, but the alcohol test showed less than the legal limit so she got off.

Why don't you have insurance? That was your first dumb mistake. My college kid has insurance and it's very cheap for young, healthy, people. I am sure your school has given you information on health insurance. Get it NOW!

The other thing you could do is to apply for Medicaid and ask them to pay the bill. If you are poor, and have no assets, getting on Medicaid should be fairly easy.

What do you guys think?

Should I even bother paying the debt? I don't own a vehicle, I don't plan to, and a house can wait till I am in my 30s when this is off the books. I'm very frugal and never used my credit to buy anything anyway. If I need more loans for school I can have my parents co-sign for one. I don't see anything in my future for the next seven years that I would need good credit for.
How did you get a credit score of 728 with no income?

Do you really think it is ok to walk away from this bill?

You seem to need a lesson in maturity and how to act like an adult. You were very stupid for excessive binge drinking and acting so irresponsible that it landed you in the hospital. You are responsible for this bill and what even makes you think you shouldn't bother paying it?

Has no one taught you about accountability and consequences for your actions? You need to grow up and fast.

Credit scores are not based on income.

The OP has no choice. She has no income.

Either one you choose is okay, but do make contact, don't ruin your credit.
Make a small payment arrangement if that is all you can afford.

One has to have income to obtain the loans/credit cards/utilities etc. that are paid monthly to determine their credit score.

Moral police? Guess so...wish more people were raising their children to be accountable and responsible for their actions.

I believe in paying my debts even if that meant I would have to get a job to pay it. Imagine that ...a 21 year old having to work a summer or part time job to pay off her debt? How awful for her.

Student credit cards are not too hard to get. Utilities do not figure into your credit score.

The ability to pay and the desire to pay are not mutually exclusive.

That's great. Too bad she's already committed to her schooling.
