There used to be a site where you could zoom in on a map and/or type in an address and get the last assessed value of a house.......anyone know if it still exists and if so what it is? Couldn't find via google. Thx

Those are NOT assessed valuations, for that you have to be in an area that the governing body lists the info online -- every jurisdiction is different. I know of no "single source" for the whole country.

Thanks but - ? So what, zillow just made it all up? They might be somewhat out of date or what have you, but seems to me they are at least in the ballpark. Not like I was looking for much more than that anyway.

Zillow claims that they use a fancy mix of sales data and computerized projections but in my experience it is shockingly easy to manipulate the price of any home in Zillow up or down at will.

Well, Zillow it puts my house at about 30K over the tax valuation value, and 50K over the actual appraised value. A neighbor down the street from me lives in a house that is about 1/3 bigger on a 1.5 acre lot (mine is only a 1/3 acre) and their zillow valuation is about 20K LESS than mine.

If that's "in the ballpark" then it's a pretty damn big ballpark.

Here in Virginia, a lot of the County Tax assessment office data is available online. This is the real stuff...straight from the horse's mouth.

If you know what county the house is in...check out that county's website to see if they have the info online.

Just as an example here is Fairfax County's (just outside of Washington DC)site:

Fairfax County

I would NOT trust Zillow for anything. They are so far off it isn't even funny and the sad thing is they have houses listed "for sale" that are not even in the right locale. There are a couple by me they have listed as "for sale" in the low 100's that are 40 year old homes w/ about 1500 sq ft they have as being in a BRAND NEW subdivision w/ homes that are over $1M. Right, accurate or even "in the ballpark" my hind leg.

Same here in Texas. You can go straight to the county tax office website and pull up the property. Get the ACTUAL figure for the tax assessed value right "from the horse's mouth". Can't get much more accurate than that.
