I am sorry if this thread has become a "Pick on Teachers thread, as I am sure the OP didn't intend that. At least not for the GOOD teachers. I do know what she/he means, as I have noticed on OTHER forums where there are people saying they are HOMESCHOOLING, and they can't spell their way out of a paper bag. Just makes me cringe.
In days past, teachers were expected to maintain a cerain level of professionalism at all time, in other words, to teach by example. Nowadays, the reigns seem a lot looser, almost lax, in many cases.

I just went to my first class tonight, in 23 years; Gen Psyc.
I learned that Socrates went to Germany & started the first school of Psychology.

I'm sure she didn't intend it to be such a thread either. In all fairness, this is a problem that extends well beyond the boundaries of the teaching profession.

I consider missing letters to be simple typos rather than an indication of a serious deficit of knowledge. By the way, you can go back and edit recent posts if you simply can't abide letting it be. As for your use of a semi-colon in your last paragraph, I'll let it slide.

You're good, Lisdol. I thought it looked a tad weird, but I'll admit that I had to double-check with Google.

I have had this same thought before. I know I'm certainly not perfect, but some of the things I read around here are just ridiculously egregious. It really should not be that hard for an educated adult to comprehend the difference between there, they're, and their. Basic proficiency in one's native tongue should be an assumed component of adulthood.

You can't assume it if one is a recent product of public "education".
