Most school districts have a website where you could check out who is on the current staff.

I retired only five years ago and out of the 35 teachers who were there my last year there are only 4 teachers who are still teaching there. A few transferred to the buildings, a few moved to other cities and many, many retired. The school is even on the third new principal since I retired. Most schools do not have any where near that huge turnover but don't go back expecting to see Mrs. X. Ms. Y and Mr. Z and be disappointed if they are not there.

If you do go to visit please call the school first to see if it would be a good day to visit (not conference day or an in-service day) or what time would be best to visit.

As another poster said, be ready with a few positive memories to share with your favorite teachers.

I became of teacher, in part, due to my wonderful 1st grade teacher. Quite a few years later, perhaps 40 years or so, after 1st grade, I happened to run into her grandson and I shared with him how much I loved his late grandmother and how I still did a certain art project with my students (salt box bunnies) that she did with us in 1st grade. He was so touched that he started to cry.

The original post was from over 2 years ago. I hope it didn't take the OP that much time to decide whether or not to visit his/her old school. I do wonder how he/she's doing, and specifically, if a visit was made.
