That question sort of assumes there ARE immigrants at your local high school. (wink #1)

Come to think of it one of the top performers at my local high school is Apache. I don't know her but she might believe the rest of are immigrants. (Wink #2)

Just something to make you think this morning.

Our school has top performers descending from all over the globe. However, almost all of them are Americans. Even though many of them have Asian decent. Asians certainly know something about effectively learning hard book material than other races. The question is, what do they know?

I observed this several decades ago, and it remains to be true. USA Today published a list of the top 100 high school students in the USA, two from each state. About 3/4 of them had names that suggested that they or their parents were first-generation Americans, mostly from Asia, many from Latin America and some from Africa. (This is more often reflected by their first names. A child named Mohammed or Han-ji or Fernando is unlikely to be from an assimilated American household.)

The top 4 students last year were:

1 White Male
1 Hispanic Female
1 Asian Male
1 White Female

So much for Prep Schools being all white!

These kids were in Band, Orchestra, Quill and Scroll, Debate and Swimming. 2 of the 4 were drum majors. One was a Scholastic All American Swimmer.

I personally know 2 of these kids and the ones I know are very nice kids from very nice families.

Asian people believe in putting on a face...doesn't mean they are fake, not what I mean but they have in their culture a belief that states, be nice to all, be kind even when you dislike them.

Is this true in your school?

Are "immigrants" the top students at your High School?
How do you know they are immigrants? They could be Chinese American students.. Born and raised in the United States ....
